How can I help?

The street party is a community project and the committee would like to involve all those who want to be involved!

Please don't be shy about volunteering your help or advice. The committee may be great at organising things, but we're pretty useless at face-painting for example, or advising on period hairstyles and dress.

There are many ways you can help - we've listed a few ideas below - but if you have an idea or a skill you feel would be useful please let us know. Also, if you would just like to be available on the day to assist a committee member with a specific task, again, please just let us have your name and contact details. Please email all offers of assistance to the committee by clicking here.

Here's an idea - how about volunteering to co-ordinate the volunteers!

Before the party

  • Helping to dress the street - materials (flags, bunting, straw bales, etc) will be provided
  • Showing those bringing other items, ie bouncy castle, where to set up
  • Assisting Steve Crooks set out his exhibition of wartime memorabilia
  • Manning the entry point and logging ticket numbers

At the party

  • Manning the bouncy castle for half an hour
  • Setting out tea for the veteran's tea party
  • Clearing tables after tea
  • Face-painting
  • Judging/stewarding one of the children's games
  • Keeping notes of which child won which game
  • Photographer - no doubt everyone will be taking pictures, but if we have a couple of 'official photographers' as well - preferably digital ones - we'll hopefully cover all events and activities

After the party

  • Clearing litter
  • Removing straw bales from street
  • Taking down street dressing
  • General tidying/cleaning
