Plans are well underway for the Priory Road Street Party. The aim is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII by commemorating the contribution of those who served at home, and also to encourage the older generations to pass on their experiences to the youngest. The party forms part of a national programme of similar events.
We have been successful in our application for a grant from the Home Front Recall (funded by the National Lottery), some of which will go towards the educational aspects of the day.
We have recently been informed that the Mayor of Newbury will be attending.
Events already being planned include:
- Projects for children to learn about living though the war
- An exhibition of war time memorabilia
- Fashions of the time
- A Victory Hat competition for the children
- Visit from the Mayor
- Games for children and adults
- High tea
- Evening swing band
- Quiz
- Fireworks
And lots more!!
