Games to play in the dark!

Sardines

One player hides somewhere in one of the dark rooms. All the others are collected in one room downstairs. Then the hunt begins. The first to find the player who is hiding, hides with him. The next one squeezes up beside these two. And so on until everybody is packed like sardines in one place, except one seeker, who becomes odd-man out.

Murder in the dark

Tear up some pieces of paper, one for each player. On one piece write the word 'Detective' and on another piece the word 'Murderer'. The rest of the slips are left blank.

Shuffle the papers in a hat. Then lower the lights and let the players draw the papers from the hat in the mysterious atmosphere of the darkened room. The players must not reveal what they have drawn; the identity of the detective and the murderer is a dark secret.

The lights are extinguished. The players scatter through the dark rooms. The murderer prowls through the house looking for his victim. Suddenly he throw his arms around one of the players, who drops dead, giving a blood-curdling yell as he falls to the floor. As soon as they hear the scream all the players must stand exactly where they are and wait. The lights are switched on by the detective after he has counted to thirty - time for the murderer to take up a postion somewhere among the rest of the players.

Now the investigation begins. The detective makes a note of the position of the victim and the rest of the players. Then he takes everybody along to the drawing room and begins to ask questions. Everybody must answer truthfully except the murderer, who may take up whatever sort of story he (or she) likes. Of course the body can't be questioned!

These are just two of the games that are included in the Brighter Blackout Book by Howard Thomas. Click here Brighter Blackout Book to find out more about the book
